Consent and Writing on Medium

For God’s sake, ask before you assume.

Please ASK for permission to tag people…especially if you decide to say you have

Recently, I was tagged in an article and the author had said clearly at the end of the piece he’d written that he’d “secured the permission of the following” people and then listed multiple authors from Medium, including me.

Only thing is, I nor any others who’d commented did not, in fact, give permission and some were incredibly offended.

What’s Wrong Here?

Here’s the thing. I personally don’t mind and actually like being tagged and quoted in articles. Often it’s resulted in extra views and reads, which for me is huge as I’m not very “big” nor have I gotten lots of loyal followers. What I DO take issue with is authors specifically saying I’ve been asked when in fact I haven’t. Please don’t do this as it can be seen as very dishonest and outright rude. It could even end up with you losing followers to the point that any gains you have made or income from the offending post are lost from the loss of reads from the anger of those who stop reading.

In the world we live in, consent is KING(Or queen).
