Financial Freedom: The Illusion

So many chastise those who are low income as lazy or a product of their last six or so choices. What they don’t realize is that for many, that one Starbucks coffee is the one thing that keeps them from just giving up on life.

When you’re financially stable, it’s easy to fall into the trap that you’re never going to worry about where your next bill comes in, or if you’re going to be able to cover the rent. Disastrous circumstances don’t seem likely and you’re just cruising along. This is what happened to a lot of people when the market crashed about twelve years ago. Well these well-to-do people ended up losing everything. We are no different today. Everyone really is super close to losing our life the way we know it. So don’t take today for granted. Set things into place that will ensure your income won’t change if the world comes to an end.

Seeing the world descend into chaos after the violence and riots hit the country, watching Covid devastate the economy, and all the other issues plaguing our country, it just is a reminder that we really don’t have control over everything. Life has a way of just laughing at our attempts to control our environment.

For me, having spent the past few months living off my ever dwindling savings, trying to keep homework up, learning how to be a single mom in a new state, this hits home in ways I never thought…
