How do you continue writing when you feel like you have nothing to say?

Well I’m dealing with this right now. I feel like I don’t have anything of value to say or write about. How do I work around that? Well I find something that’s important to me and just begin writing. Writing has been somewhat of a form of therapy for me, to help me begin processing through a lot of the trauma I’ve dealt with and was forced to overcome. As you may know, I’ve been homeless many times, without transportation more times than I care to count, and have had lots of really dark days. Having overcome those times and events, it’s hard to let my mind dwell on those times so I write to help me deal with them.

But, for those times that I just have nothing to say, what do I do? Sometimes I just don’t write anything…or I create a list of things to do, or I just open up a blank story and put something down. Sometimes it helps to just ask a question and then try to answer it to the best of your ability. I don’t really know how to answer this question, but here’s my best shot. Do something, go outside, water your plants, start a load of laundry…anything that will help you feel at least somewhat productive. Sometimes that will spur a lovely piece of writing and sometimes it will just help you feel better about yourself. There’s nothing wrong with not writing anything for a while. We write based on our experiences. If we don’t do anything, it’s hard to have anything to write about.
