Why I’m Buying Educational Toys for Christmas This Year

Inspire your children a lifetime of discovery and learning by getting them thinking toys instead of mindless occupation.

As I walk through the aisles of Wal-Mart, I’m accosted by tons of options for the upcoming Christmas holiday. It’s mind boggling how many things are competing for attention and for my dollars. Problem is, I have limited money and space for the latest and greatest toys. What’s a mom to do?

Here’s my plan:

My children are naturally incredibly curious, and have very wide interests. My daughter loves to read, loves learning about pretty much everything and I want to encourage this as much as possible. My son on the other hand is very hands on and loves all things military, electronics, and things he can manipulate with his hands. What better way to encourage a lifetime of learning than to buy scientific kits and things that will build thinking skills instead of stuff that just might end up taking space and used only a couple times and then discarded?

For my daughter, I plan on getting stuff like geology kits, jewelry making, and things that stretch her mind. My son will be receiving electrical circuit sets and things he can build and then use and reassemble into something else. I think this will build both their mental strength as well as patience, forward thinking, and how to translate what is in their mind into concrete objects they can manipulate.

These will help with creative thinking and the love of learning. I’m super excited about it! This is quick, but I hope you gain some inspiration for that last minute Christmas gift! Be blessed!
